European Care Strategy - The EU as a driving force for better care for all?

In September, in her State of the Union speech, European Commission president, Ursula Von der Leyen, announced the launch of a European Care Strategy. This initiative materialises the EU policy initiative on long-term care announced for some time and the commitments of the Action Plan of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Belgium takes a step forward in mental health
In Belgium, mental health care will be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or type of mental care need. This was decided by the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (Riziv) and the Federal Minister for Public Health. A milestone achievement for AGE member the Vlaamse Ouderenraad.

Ageism - 7 of 10 older people report being victims of age prejudice in Southern Belgium
Stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination against older people are everywhere in society. This is once again reflected in the figures from the survey published in September 2021 by Amnesty International in French-speaking Belgium.

Growing social exclusion of older people - Two French reports sound the alarm and call for political action
On International Day of Older Persons, the French Commissioner on Rights released a report providing an updated overview of old age discrimination.
At the same time, the French organisation Les Petits Frères des Pauvres published their barometer on old age isolation.
